In November 1949, Demetrio Mauro installs a small coffee roaster in a warehouse near the port of Reggio Calabria (southern Italy) and founds Caffè Mauro. As the first coffee roaster in the world, Caffè Mauro introduces the "slow-roasting" method: roasting very slowly for 15 to 18 minutes, or "A TOSTATURA LENTE". And not without success; more than 70 years later, Caffè Mauro ranks among the world's best when it comes to quality coffee.

With its blends, Caffè Mauro has managed to slightly temper the raw character of a southern Italian, through a higher concentration of Arabicas. The acidity stays nicely in the background and the intense (typically southern) aroma is preserved.
